We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event and to the vibrant city where it will take place. Join us at PTB Braunschweig to explore the latest developments in energy measurement and to connect with the brightest minds in the field.

About IMEKO TC20 and its activities

The International Measurement Confederation (IMEKO) is a federation comprising 42 Member Organizations, with each organization dedicated to advancing measurement technology. The primary goals of IMEKO are to encourage the global exchange of scientific and technical information related to measurement and instrumentation and to foster collaboration among scientists and engineers in both research and industry on an international scale. IMEKO primarily conducts its operations through its Technical Committees, which regularly host symposia, conferences, workshops, and seminars on specialized topics.
Additionally, these committees publish various materials such as proceedings from events, textbooks, glossaries, and studies.

One of today's significant technological trends and challenges is establishing a sustainable energy supply focusing on efficient generation, transmission, and consumption. However, there is a significant lack of appropriate measurement technologies, future strategies, standards, and traceability schemes for researching and developing new and renewable energy sources and for transmission and distribution through smart energy grids (including HVDC grids) and large-scale energy storage. The purpose of the technical committee 20 (TC20) in IMEKO is to provide an international forum for effective collaboration in Energy Measurement and Related quantities. Secondly, the IMEKO TC20 intends to provide the IMEKO community with the most recent advancements and accomplishments in measuring and tracing all forms of energy, energy efficiency, and other relevant physical quantities and properties of substances. This will aid in pursuing innovative research that caters to industrial requirements while making the outcomes available to the public.

The technical committee has been organizing yearly events and frequent webinars to share knowledge and insights into energy metrology. A few recent examples are "International Workshop on Laser Diagnostics and its Application for Renewable Energy – March 2022," "Metrology for the Deployment of Green Hydrogen and Renewable Fuels in India – April 2022," and Expert Webinar Series on Renewable Energy Technologies (May to December 2022).

As part of these knowledge-sharing programs, another major initiative was the establishment of WIMER, an association for Women in Metrology and Energy Research. WIMER's vision is to create a more equitable and inclusive working environment for women and make meaningful contributions to the development and innovation in metrology and energy research. Through this platform, many events are planned, and currently, frequent webinars are carried out by renowned women in the field.

As a continuation of these efforts is the International Conference on Measurements of Energy (ICME) hosted at the PTB – Braunschweig Campus from 4th to 6th September 2023.

We also take this opportunity to welcome you to the grand event in 2024, IMEKO XXIV World Congress in Hamburg, Germany. Click here for more information about the event.
